I think if you're considering the MBP 16", you need to ask yourself if you plan on using different OS's, able to deal with the butterfly switches, and soldered hardware BUT we're talking about a new model so wait out the reviews for it(?)Ģ.9GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz I am only considering the x1 for the upgradable hardware, keyboard, and linux aspects else I would have not even reconsidered selling my mbp. I have only been using the x1e2 for a couple days now and will edit my post after re-pasting, fanControling, etc for an updated conclusion. 4K display sluggish/lag with iGPU, need to be using dGPU always (which kills battery life) Extremely loud fan noise randomly, even for smaller tasks (I only undervolted, I will eventually re-paste and fancontrol to see if this will improve) Option to run windows, hackintosh, linux Cannot boot stable linux on this model ( ) Not sure if that's the case of the 16" MBP. Keyboard is atrocious (luckily I have not had any case where I had to replace mine, but some of my keys are a bit worn after use ) Retina display (imo on-par with 4k display if not better) Better build imo, metal structure, does not feel cheap. It works pretty smoothly now, but not that much faster (if at all) from my mbp '16.
I am testing both of the laptops now and will conclude on keeping one and selling the other, I am still unsure how I feel about the x1e2 as it felt very sluggish out of the box but I have fixed that(a bit) by switching to 'discrete only gpu' in BIOS and switching over to pop!_os. I have been using the MBP '16 for a little under two years now and have recently been given a x1 extreme gen 2 4k display. I have a MBP 2016 and a x1 extreme gen 2, so maybe I could help.
